There is a working farm in eastern Queens, and it has been one since 1697. The Queens County Farm Museum occupies the city's largest remaining tract of undisturbed farmland, 47 acres with planting fields, an orchard, livestock, greenhouses and a farmhouse from the colonial era, and it is one of the longest continuously farmed sites in New York State. The grounds are open to the public year-round with free daily admission.

Fall is when it puts on a show. The Amazing Maize Maze is a three-acre corn maze cut into the fields each harvest season, and on select October nights Maze by Moonlight lets you work your way through it after dark. Both are ticketed and must be booked online in advance; the farm also runs hayrides and Halloween on the Farm through October. Come on a weekday afternoon for the daytime maze, or book an early moonlight slot with children. Wear boots, because the rows get muddy. The farm stand sells produce grown on site.
