Birria-Landia
The original birria truck under the 7 train — crisp, chile-red tacos dipped in consommé on Roosevelt Avenue.
Two brothers parked a truck under the 7 train in 2019 and taught New York what Tijuana-style birria tastes like. There are more trucks now, across Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx, but the original still sits on Roosevelt Avenue at 78th Street, and the evening line still runs under the elevated tracks.
The menu is four items, all built on the same slow-stewed, chile-red beef: tacos, mulitas, tostadas and a cup of consommé. Order tacos and a consommé and dip as you go; the tortillas are griddled in the fat until they crisp. It was named the No. 2 taco spot in the country on Yelp's 2025 list, and it deserves the attention.
Editor’s tip
Order three tacos and a consommé per person and eat standing at the truck. If you are staying in Manhattan, the website lists the Upper West Side and Lower East Side trucks too.
