Círculo Español is the restaurant of the Centro Español de Queens, a Spanish cultural society founded in 1971 as the Spanish Circle. Its members bought this building on Broadway in 1985, and it is still their clubhouse: Galician dance, drum and bagpipe classes on Sunday afternoons, flamenco nights and a New Year's Eve gala in the grand ballroom, and La Liga matches on the big screen. The restaurant is open to everyone, with the easy social-club feel of a place built for families and big tables.

The cooking is traditional and fairly priced. Tapas run from $6 to $22: patatas bravas, tortilla española, chorizo in white wine, jamón croquetas, gambas al ajillo and pulpo a la gallega. Paellas start at $26, in meat, Valenciana and seafood versions, alongside fideuà, chicken in garlic sauce and a NY strip, and the flan and rice pudding are homemade. It opens Thursday through Sunday only.

Editor’s tip

Come on a weekend with a group, share a paella and a spread of tapas, and check the society's events page for a flamenco night.
