Golden Diner is a fresh take on the New York diner on Madison Street in Two Bridges, at the southern edge of Chinatown near the Manhattan Bridge. Chef Sam Yoo, who cooked at Momofuku Ko and Torrisi, built it as a neighborhood place that honors the classic diner while drawing on the Korean, Japanese, Thai and Chinese flavors of the surrounding streets. The room looks the part, with white lace curtains, swivel stools facing an open kitchen and flat-top grills, and a clock that reads chicken dinner in red script. It is casual, warm and full of regulars, and over the years it has become one of downtown's most sought-after brunch tables, without losing the feel of a corner spot.

Featured by the YouTuber New York Turk in 2025, Golden Diner is famous above all for its honey butter pancakes, a thick, fluffy stack with a caramelized edge and honey maple butter, served all day. Beyond them, The Infatuation points to the Chinatown breakfast sandwich on a scallion milk bun, the chicken katsu club, the Thai Cobb, matzoh ball soup and a tuna melt on grilled rye, plus a cheeseburger best ordered medium. Rotating chef's specials come and go quickly, so ask what is on. Reservations are available through Resy, and weekend brunch is the hardest seat to land; a weekday lunch or an early dinner is the easier way in, and a beer with a breakfast sandwich is entirely acceptable here.

Editor’s tip

Skip the weekend crush and go on a weekday; the honey butter pancakes are served all day, so they work as dessert after a katsu club.
