Jean-Georges Vongerichten has restaurants around the world, but this is the one at home: the room on the ground floor of 1 Central Park West, open since 1997, with floor-to-ceiling windows on the park and Columbus Circle. Thomas Juul-Hansen designed the dining room; L'Observatoire did the lighting. It holds two Michelin stars.

The cooking is French at the root and Asian in its accents — vegetable juices, fruit essences and herb vinaigrettes rather than cream and stock. At dinner there are six- and ten-course tasting menus, a six-course vegetarian menu, and a menu of 1997 classics for anyone who remembers the restaurant's first years. Jackets are encouraged.
