Nusr-Et is the Midtown steakhouse of Nusret Gokce, the Turkish butcher and chef the internet knows as Salt Bae, whose video of a theatrical, elbow-cocked salt sprinkle became one of the most watched food clips of its era. He opened this branch in January 2018 in the CBS building on West 53rd Street, in the space long held by China Grill, as part of a group that now spans cities around the world. The draw is part dinner, part show: meat is cooked over charcoal and many cuts are finished and carved tableside, with a flourish of salt for the camera. It is a lively, glossy room built for celebrations and group dinners.

New York Turk went to see how much a dinner at Salt Bae's steakhouse costs in 2025, and the answer is that it is a splurge. The signature order is the Nusr-Et Special, a steak prepared tableside and served sizzling in butter, or the lokum, thin slices of grilled tenderloin that arrive warm and tender. Groups can share the tomahawk, a bone-in rib-eye, and the Nusr-Et sushi, rice topped with New York strip, avocado cream and crispy potato, is a playful starter. Save room for the golden baklava from Gaziantep with Maras ice cream. For a gentler price, the restaurant's site advertises a $39 three-course lunch special, as of October 2026.

Editor’s tip

Come at lunch for the three-course set menu, or bring a group and share the tomahawk for the full tableside show.
