Shanghai Dumplings Fusion is a compact Chinese dining room on West 72nd Street, set between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues in the busy stretch that runs toward the 72nd Street subway. It arrived in 2025, and the local blog I Love the Upper West Side described a bright, clean room dressed in red, with warm service and dumplings sent out in bamboo steamers so they land hot. The menu stays rooted in traditional Chinese cooking, with soup dumplings at the center and dim sum and stir-fries filling out the rest. It feels like a neighborhood spot built for an easy weeknight: a quick table before a show at the Beacon, or a basket of dumplings after a walk through Riverside Park.

Start with the soup dumplings. The original pork version is the one reviewers keep coming back to, with crab offered as a second, more delicate option; a mixed plate lets a table try both side by side. Wontons and other dim sum round out a meal, and the kitchen also turns out stir-fried dishes for anyone who wants something more substantial. The restaurant was featured by the YouTuber New York Turk in 2026, part of his series on independent New York kitchens. Soup dumplings are best eaten the moment they arrive: lift one onto a spoon, nip the skin, and let the broth cool for a few seconds before you sip. Online ordering is available through the restaurant's website for takeout.

Editor’s tip

Order a mixed basket of pork and crab soup dumplings so the table can compare, and let each one rest on the spoon a moment before biting.
