Tra di noi means 'between us', and the room keeps the promise: about ten tables, crimson walls, red-checkered cloths, and a chef-owner, Marco Coletta, who has spent decades in kitchens and still runs the place himself. It sits a few doors off Arthur Avenue on East 187th Street, and the MICHELIN Guide keeps it in its New York selection — one of only five Bronx restaurants listed in 2026.

The cooking is Italian-American in the old manner, generous and unhurried. The servers will talk you through the day's specials with real enthusiasm, and you should listen: the seafood specials, swordfish especially, are what regulars come back for. Order a pasta per person to share around the table, and leave room, because nobody here rushes you out. On a small street lined with bakeries and butchers, it feels like eating in somebody's front room.

Editor’s tip

Ask what fish came in today and order it alongside one pasta per person for the table.
