On summer Monday nights the lawn of Bryant Park becomes the city's biggest living room. A giant screen goes up over the lawn, thousands of people spread blankets on the grass, and as the sky darkens the office towers of Midtown light up around a free feature film. The series was in its 33rd season in 2026, and the ritual is as much the point as the movie: the dash for a patch of lawn, the picnic, the crowd that cheers the opening logo.

The 2026 season ran on Mondays from July 13 to September 14; the 2027 lineup is usually announced in late spring. The lawn opens in the late afternoon and fills fast, so send one person ahead with a blanket while the rest bring dinner. Blankets beat chairs, and low chairs are better than none. It is free with no tickets. Pick up food from the park's kiosks or a deli nearby, bring a layer for after sunset, and stay put at the end while the crowd thins.
