GREENWICH VILLAGE, MANHATTAN
Midnight Movies at IFC Center
Independent premieres, director Q&As and weekend midnight cult films in the old Waverly theater.

IFC Center opened in June 2005 in the renovated Waverly theater at Sixth Avenue and West 3rd Street, the original home of the audience-participation midnight screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Today its five screens show new independent, foreign and documentary films, with frequent director Q&As, and it hosts DOC NYC, the country's largest documentary festival, each November. Its Waverly Midnights series keeps that history going with cult films and horror classics.
Check the site for Q&A screenings, which are listed with the film, and buy ahead. Waverly Midnights is the most fun way to use the place: a crowd that knows every line, a full house and the West Village still busy when you come out. Members get discounts. Visit in November to catch DOC NYC, when the whole building becomes a festival hub. Afterward, the late-night pizza and bar crawl of the surrounding blocks is right outside the door.
