MoMA holds the story of modern art the way few buildings hold anything: Van Gogh's Starry Night, Monet's water lilies stretched across a whole wall, Picasso, Warhol, and the design objects that shaped the century, all a block from the din of Fifth Avenue. The 53rd Street galleries reward a plan — pick two or three things you genuinely want to stand in front of, and let the rest be discovery.
The sculpture garden is the museum's quiet center and the right place to reset between floors. Weekday mornings are calmest; weekends fill fast around the famous rooms. Buy timed tickets on the museum's site, where current hours, admission, and any free-entry programs are listed.
