Shopping Deals in New York
Off-price stores, outlets and sample sales, the dates the big sales fall on, and the tax rules that save you more than most coupons.

New York is expensive, but its shopping doesn't have to be. Designer labels end up on off-price racks across Manhattan, brands sell off samples a few days at a time, and two big outlet centers are a bus ride away. Time it to the right weekend and the discounts stack.
Start with the tax rule that matters most: in New York City, clothes and shoes priced under $110 an item pay no sales tax at all. Everything else pays 8.875% on top of the shelf price.
