Since 1992, Bar Pitti has held its canary-yellow corner of Sixth Avenue just south of Bleecker Street, and it remains one of the most beloved, and most famous, trattorias in Greenwich Village. Giovanni Tognozzi runs it as a straightforward Tuscan kitchen, and the room comes with a reputation: the sidewalk patio is one of downtown's great people-watching perches, and it is not unusual to spot a famous face at the next table. The Infatuation calls it an endearingly imperfect New York classic, and that is exactly its charm. Service is brisk, most tables are held for walk-ins, it is cash only, and none of it seems to keep the regulars away.

New York Turk checked out what a meal costs at this celebrity favorite in 2025. The real draw is the cooking, especially the specials, chalked on a board that the servers carry from table to table. Start with the warm insalata di fagioli, tonno e cipolla, beans with tuna and onion, then go for the taglierini al tartufo, the housemade truffle pasta that critics single out, or the rigatoni and pappardelle alla fiesolana that regulars swear by. If the veal meatballs, polpettine di vitello, are on the board, order them. Bring cash, arrive before 7pm to avoid a long wait, and ask for a sidewalk table on a warm evening.

Editor’s tip

Bring cash and arrive before 7pm, then order from the chalkboard specials rather than the printed menu.
