MIDTOWN, MANHATTAN
Burgermania
A certified-halal smash-burger shop a block from Times Square, built on grass-fed beef and crispy-edged patties.
See current Google rating & reviews ↗Just east of Eighth Avenue on West 40th Street, steps from the Port Authority and the bright noise of Times Square, Burgermania is a small, focused smash-burger shop with one important distinction: everything is halal. Its certification comes from Halal Monitoring Services, which lists it as certified as of February 2025, and that has made it a destination for Muslim New Yorkers and visitors who usually have to skip the burger joints of Midtown. The shop builds its burgers on grass-fed beef, smashed thin on a hot griddle until the edges turn lacy and crisp. The room is compact and casual, more counter than dining room, and very much a local's refuel stop.
New York Turk included Burgermania on his halal food tour of the city in 2025. Regulars point newcomers to the Atomic Burger and the Big Boy Burger, both stacked and messy in the best way, and the Nashville hot fries for something with a little fire. It is an ideal quick meal before a Broadway show or a bus out of Port Authority, and portions are generous enough that one burger and fries will carry you through a long evening. Seating is limited, so on busy nights plan to take your order to go and eat in nearby Bryant Park. Check the menu board at the counter before you order.
Editor’s tip
Grab a burger before a Broadway curtain, and add the Nashville hot fries if you like heat.
