Danny Meyer's Italian restaurant, tucked deep inside the Manhattan West development between Hudson Yards and Penn Station. Walk in and it feels like checking into a good hotel in Milan: leather and velvet chairs, patterned tile, a handsome bar, an open kitchen and a wall of tall windows.

Chef Hillary Sterling cooks around a live fire, but the breads and pastas are the reason to come. Order the caramelized onion torta under two kinds of pecorino the moment you sit down, then the gnocco fritto with prosciutto and at least two pastas. Finish with the lemon torta and mascarpone.

Editor’s tip

Good for a group: portions are generous, and the torta alone justifies the trip.
