Noda is an intimate sushi counter on West 20th Street in Flatiron, led by chef Shigeyuki Tsunoda, who came to New York from Ginza in Tokyo and is classically trained in Edomae sushi. The Michelin Guide, which awards it a star, describes a speakeasy-style setting with exposed brick, where the half-moon counter sits behind the team's cocktail den, Shinji. Every guest is seated at the counter, close enough to watch each piece being formed and brushed before it is set down. It is a quiet, focused room built for a special occasion, the kind of dinner where conversation slows between courses and the chef's timing sets the rhythm of the evening.

The meal is a seasonal omakase that opens with small snacks before moving into a long run of nigiri. Michelin's inspectors single out the sea eel and two kinds of uni among the standouts, and the drinks list leans into sake and vintage Champagne. Noda was featured by the YouTuber New York Turk in 2026. Reservations are released through Tock and seats are limited, so plan ahead, especially for weekends; private events are handled by email through the restaurant. Arrive a little early for a drink at Shinji, which shares the entrance, and let the staff know about allergies when booking, since the menu is set by the chef each night.

Editor’s tip

Book on Tock as soon as dates open and arrive 15 minutes early for a drink at Shinji, the cocktail bar at the front.
