Nōksu may be the most New York setting for a tasting menu: a fifteen-seat Korean counter tucked twenty feet underground in the Herald Square subway station, behind an unmarked black door in a corridor off the 32nd Street entrance. It opened in 2023 in a space that once held a barbershop and a newsstand, earned a Michelin star in 2024 and has kept it since. The New York Times called the food "uncannily good." Inside, the commuter rush disappears and the room becomes calm and dark, focused entirely on the open kitchen. As of 2026 the kitchen is led by Aaron Chang, a veteran of Crown Shy and Atera, and the menu shifts with the seasons.

There is one menu of ten courses, built mostly around seafood (finned fish, shellfish and caviar) with a single savory meat course, and a closing round of petit fours with Korean accents such as gochugaru honey and omija. The restaurant lists it at $255 before tax and tip as of October 2026. Nōksu was featured by the YouTuber New York Turk in 2025. Reservations are required, open on Resy thirty days ahead at noon, and the door code arrives by message on the day of your booking. Because of the small open kitchen, the restaurant cannot accommodate vegetarian, vegan or shellfish-free diets. Allow up to two and a half hours.

Editor’s tip

Arrive a few minutes early: the entrance is down a flight of stairs at the 32nd St and Broadway subway entrance, by the Chase corner.
