GREENWICH VILLAGE, MANHATTAN
Walker Hotel Greenwich Village
An Art Deco-flavored Village hideaway on West 13th Street, with live jazz in the Parlour most evenings.

The Walker Hotel Greenwich Village stands on a quiet stretch of West 13th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, a slim 18-floor building whose look borrows from Georgian Revival towers and the romantic interiors of the city's early days. Steps lead down from the sidewalk into the lobby, which the hotel calls the Poets Room. Rooms have Art Deco lines and retro touches such as a vintage-style telephone, and Time Out's reviewer found terrace rooms with private outdoor tables and a view of the Empire State Building.
Society Cafe serves market-to-table cooking and cocktails in a room of warm wood and teal leather booths beneath a long skylight, and the Parlour hosts live jazz from Tuesday to Saturday at 6pm. It suits couples and solo travelers who want the Village on a more relaxed footing than its marquee hotels, with Washington Square Park, Union Square and the West Village jazz clubs all within walking distance. It is a hotel for evenings that drift from dinner to a set to a nightcap.
Editor’s tip
Ask for a terrace room for private outdoor space, and time your evening around the Parlour's live jazz, Tuesday to Saturday from 6pm.
