4 Charles Prime Rib

Ten tables, jeweled sconces and red booths in a sunken West Village room — prime rib, the burger, and a very cold martini.

Around ten tables in a sunken West Village room where daylight has been banished in favor of jeweled sconces and springy red booths. Brendan Sodikoff's restaurant, open since 2016, is built to feel like a robber baron's den, and the bow-tied staff play their parts with relish.

Order the prime rib — served several ways — with creamed spinach and buttery mashed potatoes, and add the crab cakes and chilled shrimp. The double-patty burger with American cheese is famous for a reason; get the bacon. Finish with the Valrhona chocolate pie in an Oreo crust and one more martini.

Editor’s tip

A few walk-in tables go at the first seating — people line up in the mid-afternoon.
