Anatolian Gyro is a halal Turkish restaurant on East 16th Street in Sheepshead Bay, steps from the B and Q station, where Turkish chefs cook the food of Anatolia for a loyal neighborhood crowd. The gyro is the namesake: a blend of lamb and beef stacked on a vertical spit that turns in front of the fire, sliced to order in view of the dining room so the smell drifts out to the sidewalk. The restaurant moved here from nearby Sheepshead Bay Road, and it offers sit-down dining, takeout, delivery and catering. It is a comfortable, unpretentious place for a long, generous meal with family or a quick sandwich between errands.

Order the gyro as a plate or a sandwich, then explore the grill: shish kebab, chicken and the spicy Adana kebab are regular favorites, and the iskender, sliced meat over bread with tomato sauce and yogurt, is a showpiece. Regulars also praise the fresh bread, the shepherd salad and a cup of Turkish coffee to finish. Anatolian Gyro was featured by the YouTuber New York Turk in 2025, during a Ramadan short about breaking the fast in New York. Takeout, delivery and catering trays are also available for gatherings at home. Afterward, walk ten minutes south to Emmons Avenue to see the fishing boats along the bay.

Editor’s tip

Order the iskender for the table and finish with Turkish coffee, or take a gyro sandwich to go.
