Jerk Pan
Oxtail, jerk chicken and gravy over rice and peas from a Jamaican truck that has held 48th and Park since 2009.
A Jamaican truck painted loud enough to see from a block away, parked at 48th and Park among the bank towers. It has been feeding this corner since 2009, which in the life of a Midtown food truck is several generations, and the suits in line are mostly regulars.
Order the oxtail or the jerk chicken with rice and peas, and when they ask whether you want gravy, the answer is yes. The small lunch box is filled to the lid; the larger platters add cabbage, greens or macaroni salad. It is not refined cooking, but it is warm, generous and properly seasoned.
Editor’s tip
Get the oxtail with gravy over everything, and go early — the oxtail can sell out before the lunch rush ends.
