A family-run Midtown steakhouse since 1966, with a notorious place in New York's crime history.

Sparks is an old-guard Midtown steakhouse, opened in 1966 by the brothers Pasquale and Michael Cetta and still family-owned: big dining rooms, prime steaks and a serious wine list. It is the kind of place where business dinners have been closed for sixty years.

It also has a place in the city's crime history. On the evening of December 16, 1985, Paul Castellano, then the head of the Gambino family, and his driver Thomas Bilotti were shot dead outside the entrance as they arrived for dinner, the killing that marked John Gotti's rise. Today it is simply a classic steakhouse; book ahead and come hungry.

Pair dinner with a look at the Chrysler Building's lit crown on Lexington, a few blocks south.
