Freddy Castiblanco trained as a doctor in Bogotá before he opened this small bar on Gleane Street, a few steps from the 82nd Street stop on the 7 — the train that gave the place its name. Since the early 2000s Terraza 7 has been a home in New York for the music immigrants carry with them: Afro-Peruvian and Afro-Colombian rhythms, bolero, salsa, cumbia and Latin jazz, booked by Castiblanco himself and played almost every night. In 2026 it marked twenty-five years with a free concert out on Gleane Street.

The room is narrow, with the bar on the ground floor and a raised mezzanine of benches running above it like a catwalk. Those benches are the best seats for watching the band, and the ones to claim on a date. Some sets are free and some are ticketed, so check the calendar on the official site and buy ahead for bigger names. The venue's nonprofit, Acoustic Memories, supports the musicians, and the stage regularly hosts a jazz jam with players from Queens College.

Editor’s tip

Get there before the first set and head straight up to the mezzanine benches — from the bar you mostly see the musicians' feet.
